CDA to get Rs308 million for development schemes
Thursday, June 12, 2008 Muhammad Anis Islamabad The Capital Development Authority (CDA) will receive Rs308.1 million fund under Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for the financial year 2008-2009 to execute development schemes being financed by the federal government in Islamabad against its demand of nearly Rs3 billion. The government rejected all the demands for allocations for major development projects including supply of water to Islamabad from Indus River for which the authority had demanded an initial amount of Rs1.1 billion. The government also disapproved Rs500 million construction of flats for MNAs and Rs500 million for development of Parade Ground at Garden Avenue. The CDA is also receiving only Rs50 million for construction of offices of chairmen standing committees for which it had demanded Rs500 million. The CDA would separately announce its budget in which it would allocate huge amount for self-funded projects. The federal government under PSDP would provide Rs250.1 million for eight ongoing development projects. The allocations for CDA under PSDP had been decreasing for the last four years since the authority was given financial autonomy by the last government to generate funds and spend on development projects in Islamabad. The development of Institute of National Disaster Management in Sector H-11 is the only new scheme for which the civic body would receive Rs58 million whereas the total cost of project is Rs158 million. The Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) would execute the project that was planned following 2005 earthquake. The authority would receive Rs147.969 million for rehabilitation and replacement of 32 lifts at Pakistan Secretariat building. The total cost of project is Rs173.969 million. Construction of the NA speaker’s residence in Sector F-5/2 would prominently figure in the PSDP for which the CDA would get Rs47.779 million whereas the total cost of project is Rs77.420 million. The civic body would receive only Rs50 million out of a total cost of Rs2,191.827 million for the project for addition of 3rd and 4th lanes on Kashmir Highway from Peshawar Morr to Golra Morr. An amount of Rs2,141.8 million would brought-forward from the financial year 2007-2008. An amount of Rs50 million have been allocated for the construction of offices for chairmen of standing committees against the total cost of project is Rs1,468.7 million. A budget of Rs19.537 million would be released for improvement of HVAC system and furnishing Aiwan-e-Sadr and phase-II of Senate Hall at Parliament House building. For project of air-conditioning facilities and installation of fire alarm system and CCTV system at Parliament House an allocation of Rs10.857 million had been made under PSDP. The project of construction of residential and non-residential buildings, costing Rs157.8 million, would receive Rs30 million for the coming financial year. The remaining amount of Rs1.5 million would also be released for project of 3rd Avenue from Murree Road to Quaid-e-Azam University.
