ISLAMABAD: FGEHS land scam
SC directs private company to submit statement till July 11
By Hasnaat Malik The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday directed the Green Trees Pvt Ltd to submit conscience statement about Federal Government Employees Housing Society (FGEHS) land scam case till July 11. A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry included Justice Muhammad Sair Ali and Justice Ghulam Rabbani heard the suo moto against billions of rupees corruption in purchasing the land for FGEHF employees. During course of hearing, Minister for Housing and Works Syed Faisal Salah Hayat told the bench that he had no personal grudges with the Green Trees Ltd but huge irregularities had been done during the finalisation of deal of purchasing land. He said department needed 20,000 plots for capital employees and they would get 3,800 plots through this purchasing land deal. Faisal Salah prayed before the court that GTP had utilized the substantial amount Rs 1.56 billion of this nation for a period of two years and seven months; therefore they should return the money with interest. Meanwhile, the Green Tree Project counsel Raja Muhammad Irshad contended that the dispute might be referred to former Chief Justice Saeeduzaman Sidique for probing the case. On this, the CJP remarked that Justice ® Ejaz Chaudhry name had already been incorporated so they should give respect to him. Another counsel Afnan Kundi contended that they were ready for scrutiny but at the same time they had solid proof to rebuttal minister ‘s stance that huge corruption had been done in this deal. He said CDA had not issue NOC to his client; therefore the land was not given to the department. Justice Muhammad Sair Ali observed that allegations of missive fraud were against Green Trees Pvt. “If there is a commission report GTP cannot save its reputation.” The CJP observed that both the parties should settle the matter whereas the court’s concern was to save the national exchequer from loss. The court observed that commission would be constituted after the examining the concise statement on the concise statement of Green Trees Pvt. Further hearing was adjourned till July 11. |
