Shahbaz Sharif to inaugurate uplift projects on Feb 4
Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif would pay a visit to Rawalpindi on February 4 to inaugurate several development projects, which have been completed in the city, including Slaughterhouse, RDA Parking Plaza and Liaquat Road.
Besides inaugurating these projects, the chief minister would also perform the groundbreaking ceremony of the Government Degree College for Boys at Khayaban-e-Sir Syed. This was disclosed by PML-N leader and MNA from NA-55 Malik Shakil Awan while talking to this correspondent here on Friday. Briefing on the projects, the PML-N leader stated that the floor work of the new slaughterhouse at Railway Road, Dhoke Ratta, which remained incomplete due to non-release of funds, is almost completed now. He said that the Punjab government released around Rs3 million fund in this regard. The chief minister would inaugurate the slaughterhouse on February 4. With the inauguration of this slaughterhouse, the butchers would be bound to slaughter their animals there. The services of two veterinary doctors would be available to check the condition of the animals to be slaughtered. After that people would have no complain of buying unhygienic meat from the butchers, he assured. Secondly, the chief minister would also go to Raja Bazaar to perform the inauguration of the RDA Parking Plaza on which work has been completed and the contract of the project is awarded to the private party. RDA would earn revenue worth Rs15 million annually through the project. The funds would be utilised for starting work on the second phase of the Parking Plaza including additional three storeys. Suzuki Stand would be shifted to RDA Parking Lot. Around 300 vehicles could be parked in the new parking lot at Raja Bazaar at one time. The inauguration of this project was to be made sometime in the second week of the current month but due to Shahbaz Sharif’s visit abroad, the plan has been delayed till February 4. Similarly, work on expansion and carpeting of Liaquat Road is being given final touches and this project would also be ready by 30 January. While carrying out expansion work the road has been widened by 5 feet on both sides and the width of footpaths has been shortened. Shakil Awan said that the traffic plying from Liaquat Bagh to Raja Bazaar remain suspended throughout the day due to congested road but this longstanding problem has also been resolved. The project has been completed at an estimated cost of Rs60 million while Rs90 million were approved for it. However, Rs30 million have been saved during work on the project, which would be used on other uplift schemes. During the last one year period, the government of Shahbaz Sharif has been able to complete record number of development works in Rawalpindi on which Rs3 billion have been spent, the PML-N leader claimed. |
