Sixth Road Flyover likely to be completed in five days
RAWALPINDI: The Sixth Road Flyover is expected to be completed until January 6 at the cost of Rs 1.04 billion, officials of the Highways Department said.
Construction work on the Sixth Road Flyover started on September 24, which is now in its last phase. Earlier, the vehicles used to cross the Sixth Road in five to six minutes, but now they could cross it in 45 seconds. Moreover, the flyover would save annual resources of Rs 350 million. The NLC and Habib Construction Company are constructing the flyover under the supervision of the Punjab Highways Department. Initially, the flyover was to be completed in 120 days, but now it would be completed in 100 days. Highways Department Superintendent Engineer Farhat Munir and Xen Jamshaid Khan told INP that the total length of the flyover is 248 metres and the Faizabad side of the flyover had been completed. They said that ramps having length of 100 and 115 metres had been built on both sides of the flyover. They further said the construction work on the flyover would be completed until January 6 if rain did not interrupt the work. They said Rs 100 million had been paid to WAPDA, SNGPL, WASA and PTCL for shifting the utility services. They further said that Rs 8 million had also been paid to the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) for traffic signals, while Rs 3 million would be spent on landscaping. The officials informed that 144 guarders, 14 pillars and 76 concrete slabs had been used in the flyover project. The road will go signal-free with the completion of this flyover project. |
