Modern burn centre to be functional in 2 months
LAHORE: A state-of-the-art Burn and Reconstructive Surgery Centre costing Rs1.26 billion in Jinnah Hospital will be functional within two months. This centre will be sole in providing up to the mark treatment of burn injuries in Pakistan. This was stated by head of the Burn and Reconstructive Surgery Centre of Jinnah Hospital, Prof. Moazam Tarrar while talking to APP here Sunday. Responding to question regarding the first aid of the burn injuries he said that the affected organ or limb of the body immediately put under flow of normal water for at least ten to 15 minutes. Electricity, leakage of gas and acid throwing injuries are very common in country, he said. About the surgery facilities which will be available in this centre, he said acute burn management of major burns in adults and children and their rehabilitation. Management of inhalation injury and facilities of electrocution injuries will be provided in this centre. Regarding the cost of treatment of burn injuries, he informed it is different in different hospitals, however, we here in burn centre in Jinnah hospital will provide free of cost treatment to poor and needy patients while some rooms will be available for the well to do people who could afford expenditure of the treatment, he said. The main features of this centre include outpatients’ clinic, rehabilitation services, pathology lab, blood bank, radiology skin bank, academic and research centre and social services. The building of the centre is earthquake resistant, fire safety and helipad at roof top has also been constructed for emergent patients. About the query of how much number of patients will be treated at its OPD and other departments, Prof Moazam said the OPD of this newly constructed burn centre would provide treatment facility to around 500 patients per week while its emergency would have capacity of around 100 surgeries per week. This centre has 65 beds and 46 trained senior and some junior plastic surgeon. We are far ahead of India, there is no such facility in India. Moreover, President elect of International Society for Burn Injuries belonging to India Prof Rajiv Ahuja has expressed his desire to visit this centre, Prof. Moazum claimed. We will fix a role of NGOs to meet the running cost of the center besides setting up a Board of Management in which philanthropists will be inducted as member of the board, he maintained |
