1,300 registered patients of AIDS in Punjab

By our correspondent LAHORE: Allama Iqbal Medical College (AIMC) Principal Prof Dr Javed Akram on Monday announced lectures against the spread of AIDS and hepatitis at colleges and schools. He was addressing a seminar on the topic “If life is precious then adopt preventive measures” on the AIMC premises. Standing Committee on Health and AIDS Chairman Yasmin Rehman and AIDS Programme Punjab Project Director Dr Ali Razaque were also present. Dr Ali Razaque said there were 1,300 registered patients of AIDS in Punjab. http://thenews.com.pk/daily_detail.asp?id=161737 He said AIDS in Pakistan was spreading due to the use of the used syringes. AIMC Principal Dr Javed Akram said a separate ward with facility of free tests and medicines had been set up at the Jinnah Hospital for AIDS patients. He said the Punjab AIDS Control Programme was playing its effective role. He said blood transfusion without test, used syringes, instruments and illicit relationship should be avoided. Yasmin Rehman said a body was set up at the national level and under this body MNAs would start awareness campaign in their respective constituencies against AIDS. |
