Islamabad: 100 uplift projects underway in city: ICT admin
Chief Commissioner, Islamabad Hamid Ali Khan has said that ICT administration is spending tens of billions of rupees on the development of rural areas of the capital city.
He said the administration has completed a number of projects in the rural areas of Islamabad during the last fiscal year and many on-going projects are under completion in ICT. The projects include water supply schemes, construction and rehabilitation of rural roads, pavements of streets, up-gradation of basic health units and rural health centres in remote rural areas, and many schemes relating to the development of agriculture and livestock in the rural areas. Hamid Ali Khan said that many new development projects costing millions of rupees are also being launched in the new financial year for the uplift of rural areas. He said that installation of water filtration plants in each union council is also underway. Similarly, many health related projects like supply order/booking for procurement of three mobile dispensaries for the rural areas is also in progress. The Islamabad chief commissioner said that setting up of a district headquarters hospital in Tarlai equipped with modern medical facilities for the people of rural areas is also being undertaken very strongly. He informed that the Revenue Department of ICT is also being computerised to ensure transparency of land matters, and modern patwar circles and patwar khanas are being set up at Bhara Kahu, Tarlai and Golra. Hamid Ali Khan said the ICT administration is focusing on the expansion of modern health services in rural areas, adding that development of agriculture and livestock is also taking place and so far, thousands of watercourses have been constructed for the provision of water. Similarly, he said, micro-credit schemes for giving loans to the women living in rural areas have also been undertaken and running very successfully. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner, Islamabad Amer Ali Ahmed informed that the ICT administration is also expanding the network of computer literacy centres in rural areas for spreading and promoting computer technology in those areas. Likewise, the administration is also setting up libraries in the union councils to promote reading habit among the young generation and books are being arranged in this regard. The deputy commissioner said the administration is also holding open kutcheries in rural areas very shortly to solve the problems of the local community at their doorstep in rural areas, adding that a schedule of open kutcheries would be issued very shortly. http://www.thenews.com.pk/daily_detail.asp?id=124457 |
