CDA to hire firm to run water plants
ISLAMABAD: To supply potable water to the city residents in accordance with standards approved by World Health Organization (WHO), Capital Development Authority (CDA) will hire a multinational company to run its 32 water filtration plants installed in various sectors.
“The authority has pre-qualified two companies of England and Italy out of which one will be hired within next two weeks,” CDA Director General (DG), Water Management and Sanitation, Sanaullah Aman told this news agency. He said currently a local company was looking after the care of water filtration plants set up in the various sectors. He said the local company was responsible to replace filters of the plants after every 15-20 days and guarantee safety and quality of the water. However, the DG said his directorate had received public complaints about the supply of hygienic water from some of the filtration plants. A water filtration unit will be set up in every sector of the city, Aman said, adding, the CDA was all set to install three new plants at Bari Imam shrine and in sectors F-10 and F-7. Besides some shortcomings, the filtration plants are benefiting a good number of people. Though, the water of plants contains useful minerals, its mixing with microorganisms and germs can not be ruled out. Most of the countries, including Pakistan, have taken appropriate measures to supply drinkable water to people in line with the WHO standards. app http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp...009_pg11_5 |
