No relief under NRO until Supreme Court decision: Chief Justice
ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry observed on Tuesday that nobody could be provided relief under the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) as long as petitions challenging the document are pending before the Supreme Court for adjudication. Heading a three-member bench, the chief justice made the observation while hearing a review petition filed by sacked DSP Mehr Muhammad Baqir. The court directed the petitioner to appear in court, along with his lawyer, on June 10 for a decision on his plea. The petitioner’s lawyer asked the court to first decide an application seeking relief for his client under the NRO. The court, however, rejected the request, saying that Baqir’s review petition would first be decided, and “nobody can be provided relief under the NRO as long as petitions [challenging the document] are pending for adjudication”. masood rehman
