Women more vulnerable to depression

Our correspondent Rawalpindi Depression is a serious health condition affecting millions of people each year. “Some of the most common factors involved in depression are family history, pessimistic personality, physical conditions, trauma and stress as well as other psychological disorders. Medical Superintendent Karwan-e-Hayat of Psychiatric Care and Rehabilitation Centre, Karachi, stated this while addressing ‘National Symposium on Depression’ jointly organized by Pakistan Psychiatric Society (PPS) and Department of Psychiatry, Fauji Foundation Hospital, Fauji University Medical College, Islamabad. He said, “Women are more vulnerable to depression than men.” Organizing chairman of the symposium while talking to ‘The News’ said that psychiatrics, clinical psychologists and behavioural scientists from allied fields are participating in the conference. Lt Gen Abdul Ahd Najmi inaugurated the symposium. Speaking on the occasion, he said that some of the most commonn factors involved in depression are family history, trauma, stress, pessimistic personality, physical conditions and other psychological disorders. President Pakistan Psychiatric Society Prof. Haroon Rashid Chaudhry, Prof. Musarrat Hussain, Dr Nasir Nazar, Dr Iqtidar Taufiq, Prof. S. Jamil Hussain, Prof. Khalid A Mufti, Dr Wajid Ali Akhunzada, Dr Tabassum Alvi, Dr Imran Ejaz Haider, Prof. Unaiza Niaz, Prof. Mohammad Riaz Bhatti, Prof. Rizwan Taj, Dr Mohammad Ishaque Sarhandi, Prof. Sayed Mohammad Sultan, Dr Mansoorul Haq, Prof. Yasmin Nilofer, Farooqi, Prof. Aziz-ur-Rehman Yousafzai, Dr Imtiaz Ahmed Dogar, Dr Altaf Qadir Khan, Dr Nisar Hussain and Dr Captain Jamil Hussain also spoke in the symposium. http://thenews.jang.com.pk/daily_detail.asp?id=193303 |
