SC directs Punjab govt to regularise billboards
ISLAMABAD: A three-member bench of the Supreme Court on Monday directed the Punjab government to regularise the display of billboards in the province, especially in Lahore, and report to the court.
The bench consisting of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Chaudhry Ijaz Ahmed and Justice Jawwad S Khawaja heard a plea of advertising agencies against a Punjab government decision banning the display of billboards in Lahore, also upheld by the Lahore High Court. Hamid Khan, senior counsel for the agencies, told the court the Punjab government had banned billboards without prior notice to the companies, which led to huge losses to both the companies and their clients. He said the government generated revenue from these companies and imposition of such a ban would deprive the national exchequer of substantial revenue. http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp...009_pg7_37 |
