Lahore: GOR-I: 30% DMG residents posted outside Punjab, 9% retired
* 32 officers working for federal government still retain their residences in Lahore
* 93 bungalows in 161-house locality allotted to DMG officers
* At least 10 repatriated officers allotted houses in Islamabad

LAHORE: Nearly 30 percent of the District Management Group (DMG) officers living in GOR-I are posted outside Punjab, sources in the Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD) told Daily Times.

The sources said the S&GAD had issued notices to five of the 32 officers posted outside the province to vacate the official residences allotted to them in GOR-I, but they had not obeyed the notices so far. There are 161 bungalows in GOR-I, out of which 93 are allotted to senior DMG officers, 27 are reserved for judicial officers, 16 for provincial ministers, seven are designated house, six are allotted to the police and 12 residences are allotted to officers from groups other than the DMG. These include one each from the Provincial Civil Service and the Provincial Secretariat Service. One residence (1-Shanan Road) is allotted to former president Justice ® Rafiq Tarar. The Pakistan Navy War College is housed in one residence, while the Civil Defence Academy occupies another. The other residences are allotted to two doctors, one Audit and Account group officer, a comptroller, an employee of the Punjab Assembly, one ex-cadre officer and one to the protocol director general. Since April 2008, the Punjab government has surrendered the services of 32 DMG officers from grade-20 to grade-22 to the federal government, the sources said. All these officers were repatriated to Islamabad on the recommendation of Chief Secretary Javed Mehmood.

Islamabad residences: The sources said at least 10 of these 32 officers have been allotted official residences in Islamabad, but still did not vacate their GOR-I residences. The officers of the unified group (DMG, police) can retain the allotted accommodation for a period of five years if transferred out of the province, according to the allotment policy 2009 issued by the S&GAD. The period was three years in the previous policy. If an officer is transferred out of Lahore and posted as a district coordination officer or district police officer or as a district and sessions judge, he can retain the official residence for three years, compared to two years in the previous policy.

14 retired officers still living in GOR-I

LAHORE: The sources told Daily Times that 14 retired officers are occupying their official residences. These include 11 DMG officers and three from the Police Service of Pakistan. All the retired police officers have been rehired by the government, the sources said, adding that the DMG officers had not been hired again. Four residences in GOR-I are occupied by widows of DMG officers who died during service, they said. According to the 2009 allotment policy issued by the S&GAD, retired officers are allowed to retain the official residence for six months after their retirement on submitting a surety bond on stamp paper with the undertaking that they will vacate the official residence after the expiry of the permissible extension. The bond is to be signed by two other officers allotted official residences. In case of a violation, the allotment of the guarantors will be cancelled as a penalty without any notice, the policy states. This condition was not part of old policy, the sources said. According to the new policy, no re-employed officer is entitled to the allotment or retention of an official accommodation beyond the permissible retention period allowed on retirement. anwer hussain sumra
