SC summons Kazmi and Swati for Dec 6 in Haj scam case
ISLAMABAD: Taking suo motu notice of the alleged irregularities in haj arrangements, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Friday issued notices to the ministers of Religious Affairs and Science and Technology, the attorney general of Pakistan, Religious Affairs secretary, FIA Director General, NAB Chairman and others to appear before a special bench on December 6 and explain the allegations.
Through notices, both Hamid Saeed Kazmi and Azam Swati have been asked to appear in person or through their authorised representatives. The Religious Affairs minister has been asked to submit his reply to rebut charges of corruption, while Swati has been asked to furnish evidence, if any, to prove the allegations of corruption he levelled at Kazmi. The SC asked the NAB chairman to submit a report on whether any case was pending against former haj DG Rao Shakeel under the National Accountability Ordinance 1999, while the Establishment secretary was directed to appear and produce a summary of the appointment of Rao Shakeel. The Interior secretary has been directed to submit report if Rao Shakeel’s name was on the ECL, and on whose directions his name was removed from the list. The CJP also issued notices to members of the Parliamentary Committee who compiled a report on September 1, 2010. Notices have also been issued to the proprietors of tour operators to give their take on the corruption allegations. |
