Newly-constructed Adyala Road cracks
RAWALPIND - Several metres long potholes and cracks appeared on different points of newly constructed Adyala Road have exposed the quality of work and material used by the contractors and the authorities concerned. Deep potholes and wide cracks appeared at Dhoke Baildaran, Jarahi Stop, Rukhshanda Mosque, Landco and Gulshanabad points have made the journey unsafe for passengers and are causing traffic jams in peak hours. The government of Punjab had carpeted 12-km long busiest Adyala Road with millions of rupees while Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, the then leader of the opposition in National Assembly and also MNA from the constituency, inaugurated the long awaited Adyala Road one and half years ago. The government had awarded the contract to Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) to construct this road. But in a very short period, Adyala Road lost its shape. It is in a bad condition. The area residents and sources alleged that substandard material was used in the construction of the road. As a result, the road started losing its shape in monsoon, they added. No official of RDA engineering department was available for comments on the bad condition of the road. CDA bulldozes illegal structures The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Tuesday sent its demolition squad to Zone-III for bulldozing the illegal structures constructed by powerful owners of farmhouses in Shah Allah Dita village. Following the directions of Chairman CDA Maroof Afzal, a joint coordinated anti-encroachment team comprising different directorates of the CDA has taken action against the illegal structures in the surrounding of Margalla Avenue and Shah Allah Ditta village of sector D-12 and demolished the illegal structures in an exclusive operation. During the operation, the anti-encroachment team of CDA permanently closed and dismantled the unauthorised access roads, which lead towards the illegally established housing societies and farmhouses in Pind Sangriyal, adjacent to sector D-12. The anti-encroachment team also took prompt action against the illegal sale points of sand and crushed stone established at the green belt of sector E-11 and removed these sale points from the area. Crop cultivated by the locals on the CDA land have also been removed and the land has been retrieved. The chairman CDA in a statement issued here said that the operation against the illegal and unauthorised farmhouses and housing societies would continue, which have been established against the CDA Zoning Regulations and without the permission of the authority. He said that the operation initiated against the nonconforming use of residential units before Eid-ul Fitr would also continue without any discrimination, fear or favour. He further added that CDA was committed to removing all kinds of encroachments from the city. The illegal structures and access roads constructed by different people have been demolished by the enforcement directorate with the help of heavy machinery of MPO Directorate of CDA. These illegal structures and unauthorised approach roads were constructed in gross violation of building bylaws and zoning regulations. |
