CM okays infrastructure development authority
LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif Tuesday gave approval to setting up of Infrastructure Development Authority Punjab.
Presiding over a high level meeting, the chief minister said that construction and rehabilitation work of rural roads under Khadim-e-Punjab Rural Road Programme costing billions of rupees was continuing speedily. On this biggest project the country, he said, in the first phase, construction and repair work of 2075 kilometer long roads would be completed until September 30 while the second phase of the programme would start immediately after that. Draft has been prepared for the setting up of an autonomous authority with regard to Khadim-e-Punjab Rural Roads Programme, he added. Shahbaz Sharif said that the Punjab government was implementing the policy of balanced development across the province. He said that second phase of ‘Pakian Sarkan--Sokhay Panday’ would start from the beginning of September. He said that no compromise would be made on the standard and transparency of this programme. “A mechanism has been evolved for the provision of quality charcoal for the programme of construction and repair of rural roads. Use of substandard material will not be allowed in the construction of roads and stern action will be taken over any complaint in this regard,” the CM added. The chief minister directed that action should be continued against the elements involved in the sale and use of substandard Iranian charcoal. |
