Bahria Town is willing to construct Dadocha Dam
Bahria Town is willing to construct Dadocha Dam subjective to the assurance that there will be no interference by the Punjab Government’s bureaucracy in the project, as per a news report. The statement was given by Malik Riaz before Supreme Court (SC)’s three member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar, who had earlier taken suo moto notice on the delay seen in construction of Dadocha and Papeen dams.
On the directives of the court, Bahria Town counsel Aitzaz Ahsan provided a quick background of the dams’ situation. Answering one of the bench’s question, Riaz said that Bahria Town owns 20% of the land at the site originally proposed for the dam. Adding to it, Ahsan said that Bahria Town had proposed another side for it, while back in August 2015, SC ruled out the proposal and directed the Government of Punjab to construct the dam at the originally marked site. He also mentioned that the review petition filed by the Bahria Town on that verdict is still pending. Ahsen requested that a larger bench should be constituted to hear his client’s review petition. Ahsen told the apex court that Bahria Town wants the land to be acquired to them and they will construct the dam within one year. Responding to it, CJP asked Ahsen to submit proposal of constructing dam in writing. The court later announced to have considered the proposal of Bahria Town, and also issued a notice to the Punjab government to not comply with the order issued back in August 2015 for constructing the dam at original site. The apex court also notified the Punjab government to submit its reply in three weeks. At the same time, it directed the Punjab Chief Secretary and Advocate General to come fully prepared on the next date of hearing. Source: https://www.thenews.com.pk/print/349828-...ar-sc-told |
