Pak Suzuki raises prices of all its models

KARACHI: Pak Suzuki Motor Company Limited has raised the prices of its all brands of cars by Rs 150,00 to Rs 200,000 with effect from June 01, 2008.

Although, company officially announced average raise of Rs 15,000 to Rs 30,000 in different brands, the motor dealers declared that in fact, the raise for various brands was from Rs 15,000 to Rs 200,000 and termed it part of monopolistic policy of the company without having any regard for the general public.

Shafiq Ahmed Sheikh, Head of Public Relation and Official Spokesman of Pak Suzuki Motor Company Ltd told Daily Times Saturday that price of Suzuki Mehran and Alto (Petrol+CNG) has been increased by 150,00 to 200,00, Suzuki Cultus price by Rs 150,00 to Rs 30,000, Suzuki Bolan by Rs 15,000 to 25,000 and Suzuki Liana price by Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000.

Whereas H.M. Shehzad, Chairman All Pakistan Motor Dealers Association, said that in fact the price raise was much higher what the company announced. Apart from officially announced increase of four brands, the price of Suzuki APV (MT-Petrol) has been raised by Rs175,000 to Rs 11,90000 from Rs 10,24000 whereas the price of APV CNG has been raised by Rs 174,000 to Rs 12,49000 from Rs 10,75000.

The price of Jimny Jeep (JLSX) has been raised by Rs.200000 to Rs.1090000 from Rs.8,90,000 and price of Jimny Jeep (JLDX) was raised to Rs 11,80000 from Rs.9,60000.

Mr Shehzad strongly criticized the raise in the price of different brands of the company and said that this has been third increase in last two months (April & May) by the company.

He pointed out that prices would shoot up further when withholding tax would come into effect from July 01,2008 and estimated that it might raise by Rs 9,000to Rs 26,000 further fro different brands. Pak Suzuki Motors spokesman cited rupee depreciation against dollar, rising prices of raw materials like steel sheet in international market and high rate of petro chemical domestically being the main reasons for increasing the prices of cars. tanveer ahmed
