Banaras Chowk flyover to be opened in four months:Karachi
KARACHI: The city government has finished over 40 percent of the development work on the Banaras Chowk flyover and it would be completed within the next four months. The work on the Rs 1.15 billion, 1.5 kilometre long flyover at Banaras Chowk started on the directives of City Nazim Mustafa Kamal, to facilitate the people of Orangi and Baldia Towns. The 24 feet wide flyover will stretch from Metro Cinema to Pirabad police station and an 8.2 metre space has been earmarked in the middle for a bus rapid system while a road under the flyover has also been planned. According to the city government, the design of the flyover has been improved on the desire of the local people thus, the project was delayed. Kamal directed EDO Works and Services Rasheed Mughal to speed up the work on the flyover so that it could be completed on time. He said Banaras Chowk is a busy area and the objective of the flyover is to overcome the traffic jams there. Kamal went on to say that the laying of water pipelines separately for Orangi and Baldia has been completed at a cost of Rs 920 million and water has been released into the Orangi pipeline. He revealed that to carry water to Orangi Town’s hillocks, two pumping stations have been constructed at a cost of Rs 10 million.
