Punjab: CM shocked over poor performance by govt colleges, some get 0% result in BA
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has expressed concern over the poor performance by government colleges in the Punjab University’s BA/BSc exams, saying zero percent result in the exam by some government colleges was shocking.
Chairing a follow-up meeting regarding the implementation of decisions for the uplift of education sector as well as standard of education on Thursday, Shahbaz Sharif directed the Higher Education Department to arrange a separate briefing in connection with extremely poor performance of government colleges in BA/BSc exams. He ordered immediate elimination of the registration and examination fees of educational boards for matriculation examination for students of public sector schools. Expressing commitment to eliminate Booti Mafia, the chief minister warned that in case of any irregularity in the affairs of educational boards not only chairman and secretary concerned will be removed from their posts but the Education secretary would also be held accountable. He directed the completion of recruitment process of 34,000 educators in the province within three weeks and the execution of computer labs project by October this year. Shahbaz Sharif also directed that the sum of Rs 1 billion allocated last year should be distributed among the teachers by August 14 this year by this standard. He said that government has also decided to award cash prize of Rs 50,000 each to 2000 college teachers and a strategy was being evolved for the purpose. Similarly, he said, cash prizes would be awarded to 1000 teachers showing extraordinary performance. He said that recommendations should be submitted next week for the provision of free higher education to the children of such teachers of backward areas as well as the allotment of residential plots.
