LDA officials directed to furnish assets details
LAHORE - The Punjab government has called for immediate production of complete details of the assets of LDA officials and staffers in case of illegal high-rise buildings amid ongoing arrest operation against officials of LDA and CDGL.
The move is going to be opened another Pandora box to expose corrupt employees of the authority. The asset details include moveable and immovable property, bank accounts, prize bonds, income from rented houses and agri land, valuable gifts, number of children studying abroad and others. Sources in LDA revealed that FIR has been registered in Anti-Corruption against 33 building inspectors and officials in high-rise buildings case carried the information that all LDA employees were ordered to submit the total details of their assets as per direction of Punjab government. The regulation wing of Services & General Administration Department has sent the proformas in this regard. It may be recalled that the Anti-Corruption Establishment could not arrest a majority of the officials who allegedly connived in the construction of illegal plazas due to their wrong addresses in official record. The Chief Secretary was informed that the addresses and contact numbers of a majority of the marked officials of the LDA, CDGL, local government and housing departments available in their record books were wrong, and they could not be traced. This made the chief secretary angry and he asked the Chairman LDA and the DCO Lahore to immediately update record books of the officials, putting in detail of their service record and assets. After the CS dismay, anti-corruption establishment arrested 11 officers of the CDGL and LDA and handed them over to the Old Anarkali police. These officers were taken into custody for their alleged involvement in construction of illegal high-rises in the City. The cases were registered against them under Section 5/2/47 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1947 and Section 161 of the Pakistan Penal Code. The arrested officers were identified as Rana Maqbool, Tariq Mehmood Bajwa, Younas Dar, Ansar Imam Bokhari, Gharib Alam, Muhammad Jehangir, Shafqat Bhatti, Rana Muzzamil Haq, Col Abdul Majeed ®, Mutahir and Tahir Naveed. |
