Miracle on the motorway
Monday, March 30, 2009
I am a Pakistani-born British national. Last month I visited Pakistan to meet my relatives. One night I was travelling to Multan from Lahore along with my husband and five-year-old son. It was raining cats and dogs when my car suddenly developed a mechanical fault and came to a grinding halt just outside Khanewal. It was quite scary since the volume of traffic was also very low. I remember a signboard on which it was written to dial ‘130’ for help in case of any emergency. I made a reluctant effort to dial the number — which was of the motorway police. The operator politely asked me about my location and vehicle registration number and type. I was pleasantly surprised to see that a motorway police mobile came within 10 minutes and I was approached by a handsome officer, wearing a raincoat and a smile on his face. He asked me about the problem and sent the other officer to arrange a mechanic. It was 3am when the other officer brought the mechanic who rectified the fault and enabled us to continue our journey towards Multan. I wanted to give a reward to the officer to express my gratification but he politely refused saying that he was only doing his job. My son was so impressed with that officer that he wants to become a police officer when he grows up. Sumbal Bukhare Ilford, UK http://thenews.com.pk/daily_detail.asp?id=169821 |
