Punjab CM Fund raises Rs 550m for IDPs
RAWALPINDI: People have so far contributed Rs 550 million to the Punjab Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the NWFP’s internally displaced persons (IDPs), said Political Assistant to the Punjab CM Pervaiz Malik on Monday.
According to him, the donations are likely to swell to one billion rupees in the days ahead. Malik stated this on return from Mardan where he visited a medical relief camp of the Punjab Health Department and the IDPs’ camps. He said the Punjab government would continue supporting IDPs until their return to their homes. The chief minister’s political assistant said the provincial government had so far supplied the Rs 100 million medicines to the IDPs, adding the Health Department’s mobile teams visit the IDPs camps on a daily basis. Advisor to the Punjab chief minister Zakia Shahnawaz said on the occasion that 32 trucks loaded with flour, children food and other daily use items would be dispatched to the areas sheltering the IDPs.
