KARACHI - Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat ul Ebad Khan has directed that pace of work on the housing schemes under the Lyari Development Authority (LDA) be speeded up. He was presiding over a meeting regarding the LDA activities at the Governor’s House here on Tuesday. Dr Ishrat said that apart from the on-going schemes, effective steps be also undertaken for new housing facilities. He instructed that water and electricity be made available at New Malir Housing projects so that the people could start building their houses. The governor also directed the encroachments be removed in collaboration with the anti-encroachment cell. He instructed that the commercial plots be auctioned as early as possible. During the briefing the governor was informed that at the scheme a solar energy plant would be installed so as to provide electricity to the entire scheme. The auction of the commercial plots would be done along with industrial plots. Dr Ishrat was pleased to learn that with regard to plots, 90 percent of the amount has been received. He directed that the development work at the scheme should be completed at the earliest. Pak woman gets distinction: Mariam Sultana, a lecturer at Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) has become the first Pakistani woman who got her doctorate in extragalactic astrophysics- an emerging branch of Astrophysics. A FUUAST statement here on Tuesday said that she was supervised by Professor Dr Shahid Qureshi at Institute of Space and Planetary Astrophysics (ISPA), University of Karachi. HEC foreign faculty Professor Dr S Nuritdinov also guided her in research work. Her research is based on `mathematical modeling of formation of ring structures in galaxies at early evolution of universe’. Her work is not only accepted by national institutes but also recognized by Oxford University and University of California, the statement added. Motorway police seizes snatched trailer: The Motorway Police have seized snatched trailer and recovered goods with estimated cost of Rs 0.5 millions, besides cash of Rs 32,000, documents and two mobile phones. A Motorway Police spokesman said here on Tuesday that after receiving information from the police helpline, the surveillance was mounted. He said on noticing the trailer it was signalled to stop but the driver taking advantage of darkness fled from the scene. The Motorway Police seized the trailer with goods of about Rs 0.5 million and cash of Rs 32,000 with documents and that these were handed over to the Gadap police. The DIG Motorway Police South Dr Waliullah Dal has appreciated the performance of the personnel, it was further stated. |
