ISLAMABAD: IBA to launch hospital, housing projects for lawyers
Islamabad Bar Association (IBA) aims to introduce two new projects according to which a hospital and a housing society would be established for lawyers while decision regarding the construction of lawyers’ complex in Sector G-10 would be finalised in the ongoing month, said the IBA President Haroonur Rasheed.
Talking to Daily Times, he said maps of the complex were approved for the complex. He said that over 2,000 chambers would be constructed in the complex. “We have held several meetings with high ups to give a final touch to the lawyers complex project,” he said. He said that it was a mega project and the IBA was determined to follow its plan so that lawyers could be facilitated. He added the Islamabad High Court (IHC) would soon be shifted to G-11 while lower courts would be taken to its site. He said that two floors would be allocated for parking lots in the complex. IBA Secretary General Muhammad Ayub Arbab Gujjar, while talking to Daily Times, said “we have got 10-kanal land for the construction of the complex.” He said that they had Rs 2.5 billion under the access to justice program for the construction of lawyers’ complex. He said that he met with several high ups on January 17, 18 and 19 so that the project could be finalized. He said that foundations of lawyers’ complex would be laid in the ongoing month. He expressed his hope that his team would be able to approve the two-mega projects of establishment of hospital and a housing society for lawyers in Islamabad. The IBA members also met with Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary and briefed him about the projects. Addressing a ceremony held in connection with the allotment of land for lawyers’ chambers, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Babar Awan said that legislation for the establishment of IBC was in process adding there would soon be a separate bar council for Islamabad-based lawyers. He said that he fulfilled his promise of reestablishment of IHC as it was functioning at present. “I have directed the CDA to make a PC-1 for constructing a modern building for lawyers’ chambers and a hospital on a design of Polyclinic,” he added. Babar said the complex would be completed within prescribed time frame adding it would provide swift justice to the residents of Islamabad. He announced that the capital would get soon its own provincial assembly, however, he did not comment on modalities in this regard. |
