Environment Department approves orange line metro project on certain conditions
LAHORE: The Environment Department has finally given approval for the Lahore Orange Line Metro Train Project after reviewing and accepting the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) report. However, the department has given conditional approval for the project, directing the executing agencies to spend 1% (Rs 1.65 billion) of the total cost of the project on plantation and solving other existing environment-related issues.
On the other hand, the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) and Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning Agency (TEPA) have planned to complete the load tests within 15 days. When announced, the project faced massive opposition from Punjab University employees, as the project’s route was affecting the Punjab University Employees Cooperative Housing Society. The employees also registered various protests against the executing agencies, but to no avail. For more details, please read the following article: |
