Mall Road, MM Alam Road and Gulberg to get CCTV cameras

LAHORE: District Coordination Officer (DCO) Ahad Khan Cheema has said that CCTV cameras would be installed at Mall Road and MM Alam Road, Gulberg, in order to keep a check on criminal activities in the two busiest markets of the city, hence, enabling the traders’ community to do business in a peaceful atmosphere. The announcement was made by the DCO during a meeting held at Town Hall, wherein he said that consultation process with traders had been initiated with regards to the project. He said that the installation of cameras at Mall Road and MM Alam Road was a pilot experiment, adding that the project would be extended to other areas provided the pilot proves successful. The cameras would work round the clock, monitoring the movement of each person visiting the market, Cheema elaborated, adding that a control room would be set up to monitor the activities, and the recordings will also be available for further use. He said that the administration’s aim in initiating the project was to create a business-friendly atmosphere for the traders across the city, for which the district administration would stay in touch with the traders until the project was completed.
