Lahore: Load shedding, shortage of fuel and gas bring city to halt
LAHORE: The city came to a halt due to excessive power outages and shortage of fuel and gas on Saturday. Muhammad Hameed, a resident of Shadman had an interview in a multinational company at 9am, but when he entered the washroom in the morning there was no water due to load shedding. He, however, managed to ‘borrow’ a bucket full of water from his neighbours. When he reached the relevant office 30 minutes late, its administration refused to interview him. Hameed said, “WAPDA and LESCO conspired together to keep me away from my first job.” Salman Abbas, a resident of Cantonment, said, “I have installed uninterrupted power supply (UPS) units at home and office, but they cannot be charged properly due to the excessive load shedding. I reach office late owing to the load shedding of power and gas.” Shazia Khurram, a resident of Gulberg, said that her husband had bought a power generator in June 2008. “Unfortunately, they are not able to get fuel for the generator for a couple of days,” she added. She said that the load shedding and shortage of gas had added to the people’s misery. staff report
