Islamabad: CDA to dualise Faizabad-Koral Service Road to reduce load on expressway
* Two bodies will resolve issues pertaining to the project
* Rawalpindi administration to revise building bylaws, identify garbage dumping sites By Fazal Sher ISLAMABAD: A Capital Development Authority (CDA) meeting on Saturday decided to reconstruct and upgrade eight-kilometre long Service Road (West) stretching from Faizabad to Koral Chowk with an aim to turn into an expressway and shift traffic load from Islamabad Expressway. CDA Chairman Tariq Mehmood Khan chaired the meeting attended by CDA Board members, Rawalpindi Commissioner Zahid Saeed, District Coordination Officer (DCO) Imdadullah Bosal and City Police Officer (CPO) Rao Muhammad Iqbal. The CDA chairman termed the road project beneficial equally to the federal and the Punjab governments. He said initially the road would be reconstructed and later dualized. He said upgradation of the road would also facilitate over 0.2 million adjacent population particularly and others generally. CDA Member (Engineering) Tahir Shamshad told the meeting that land owned by the Army, three graveyards, garbage dumping sites and sewage water present along the road might prove potential bottlenecks to the project. Two committees: The meeting decided to constitute two committees comprising the CDA members and officials of Rawalpindi district administration to resolve various issues likely to confront the road expansion. One committee headed by CDA Director General (Civic Management) Mustafain Kazmi will find solutions to issues related to sanitation and garbage dumping. Other committee headed by CDA Deputy Director General (Planning) Sarwar Sindhu will look into the matters of land acquisition. Rawalpindi admin: The meeting said that Rawalpindi district administration would also revise Building Control Laws for the construction of buildings in the vicinity of Faizabad-Koral Chowk Service Road (West) and earmark land for graveyards so as to contain the expansion of existing cemeteries. Moreover, the Rawalpindi administration will also identify alternative places for garbage dumping and disposal to make adjoining area of the road environment-friendly. http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp...009_pg11_4 |
