‘LG system made bureaucrats answerable to public’
LAHORE: The current local government (LG) system made bureaucrats answerable to public representatives for the first time in the country’s history and the government’s decision to replace nazims with administrators will reverse the process, Lahore District Nazim Mian Amir Mehmood said on Thursday. He was talking to reporters at the Town Hall after announcing the annual budget of the City District Government Lahore (CDGL) for the year 2009-10. He said all nazims were against abolishing the LG system because it served the people better than any other system of the past. Replying to a question on his nominal participation in the campaign launched by the district nazims against the government’s decision, he said he was a part of the movement and supported it right from the beginning. staff report
