EU announces 30 million Euro aid
ISLAMABAD (August 10 2010): The European Commission on Monday announced 30 million Euros for the flood affected people in Pakistan, as Pakistan's ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg and European Union Jalil Abbas Jilani made an appeal for more support. The North Atlantic Council has already tasked the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Co-ordination Centre (EADRCC) at Nato Headquarters in Brussels to act as a clearing-house for humanitarian assistance offered by allies and partner nations to Pakistan.
Ambassador Jilani appealed to Pakistani diaspora, international humanitarian organisations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and people from all walks of life in Belgium to come forward for the assistance of people affected by unprecedented floods in Pakistan, said a press release from Brussels. Talking to Pakistani community and media in Brussels, Jilani said although the federal and provincial governments have launched rescue and relief operations, the scale and magnitude of catastrophe required mobilisation of international community and Pakistani diaspora with generous humanitarian assistance for the flood affected people. He appealed to all for sending cash for providing food, shelters, medicines and other necessary items to the affected areas and said Pakistan hasn't seen floods of this ferocity for nearly 80 years. He said contributions could be made in cash to provide affected people with shelter, food, medicines, water and sanitation. The donations could be sent to Pakistan in cash in Pak Rupees Account Number 000294-2, Branch code 1732 of National Bank of Pakistan Secretariat Branch, Islamabad. Donations could also be sent to US$ Account number 9901526, Branch code 0341 (swift code NBPAPKKA021) of National Bank of Pakistan, Main Branch, Islamabad. |
