Islamabad: CDA asked to expedite work on projects

* Orders work on Rapid Mass Transit System, new sectors to overcome housing units shortage By Fazal Sher ISLAMABAD: Cabinet Secretary Zafar Mahmood on Thursday directed Capital Development Authority (CDA) to expedite work on development projects to facilitate the citizens, a senior CDA official told Daily Times. He said Mahmood issued these directives while presiding over a meeting held at CDA Headquarters. CDA Chairman Tariq Mehmood Khan, Member Estate Brig ® Asad Munir, Member Finance Saeedur Rehman, Member Administration SM Farooqi, Member Planning & Design Syed Tanvir Bukhari, Member Environment Mazhar Hussain and Senior Director Public Relations Rawal Khan Maitla attended the meeting, he said. He said Mahmood asked CDA to speed up work on its projects, complete them within their stipulated time and also maintain the quality. The official said Mahmood told the meeting that the Cabinet Division would fully cooperate in completion of all projects initiated by CDA. He said the projects, which remained incomplete since long, should now be completed by CDA. According to the official, Mahmood said the traffic problem was increasing with each passing day in the federal capital and the CDA should start work on Rapid Mass Transit System on immediate basis to facilitate the residents of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. He also directed CDA to launch new sectors and speed up development work of the already launched sectors to overcome the growing accommodation problems in the capital. Mahmood said CDA needed to take special measures for marketing of commercial property. The CDA chairman informed the secretary about functioning of the civic body and its various ongoing mega development projects and the projects it completed recently. He said CDA would start work on several development projects in near future. He said besides the development projects, CDA was struggling to improve the environment of the city and in this regard CDA had launched “Clean & Green Islamabad Project”. The CDA chairman also informed the secretary about the development work in different residential sectors.
