KPK Governor Directs to start work on Kurram Tangi Dam
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan has directed the concerned officials to start working on the first phase of Kurram Tangi dam in North Waziristan Agency.
The project is initiated to help ease energy crisis in Fata. Governor issued the orders during meeting with Chairman WAPDA, Zafar Mehmood, where he was briefed on the pace of progress on Kurram Tangi dam project. Few officials of Frontier Works Organization (FWO) also attended the meeting. Governor further directed the officials to release the project’s tender documents by mid January 2015 and address difficulties related to land acquisition by January 31. Completion of Kurram Tangi dam would increase economic activities in Fata besides creating job opportunities and overcoming energy crisis. Energy and water projects were vital for socioeconomic development of the country, especially the deprived regions like Fata. The dam would affect 0.35 million acres of land in Bannu and Lakki Marwat districts and the adjoining tribal belt and generate 83 megawatts electricity. |
